Founded by award-winning chemist Mumbi Dunjwa, Naturaz delivers and sustains three times more moisture in curly hair. Dunjwa, leveraging her extensive background in chemistry, large pharma, healthcare, and technology, has created a unique product line aimed at addressing the specific needs of curly-haired individuals.

This funding milestone is particularly significant given the underrepresentation of women in venture capital, with companies founded solely by women receiving less than 3% of all venture capital investments. The challenge is even greater for Black female founders, who have historically been under-funded. Dunjwa’s achievement in raising $1 million stands as a testament to her determination and vision.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Philadelphia investment ecosystem,” said Dunjwa. “These funds will help ensure that Naturaz products become accessible to curly-haired women and their families across the United States. We hope our journey inspires other female entrepreneurs.”

In the past six months, Naturaz has raised over $700,000, with $500,000 secured in July alone. The company’s success in fundraising is attributed to building strong, targeted relationships with investors and effectively communicating its brand strategy, growth trajectory, and future plans.

The newly secured funds will enable Naturaz to expand its retail presence, offering high-quality, vegan hair care products to consumers who prioritize health-conscious cosmetic choices. The company plans to continue innovating and formulating effective, scientifically-backed products for curly hair.
